New SGA president pro tempore plans to educate senators, maximize potential

Student Government Association voted Kayla Pickersgill to serve as president pro tempore for the 2010-2011 election year Wednesday afternoon.

Pickersgill was approved 24 to 12 for the position.

"It was literally one of the happiest moments of my academic life," Pickersgill said. "I was preparing myself for the role of president pro tem. before I realized this job even existed. I knew this job was for me."

Pickersgill is ready to start encouraging and helping the senators fulfill their potential.

"I feel that we have the potential to do so much within Ball State," Pickersgill said. "We were all put in our positions because the students thought we were the best to serve these positions."

With the President Pro Tempore position Pickersgill plans on teaching senators what their role in SGA entails.

"I'm going to call it SGA 101: an Intro to SGA," Pickersgill said. "I'm going to stress that this is a process. I want senators to be familiar with the role they play, who they represent and what their role is as a senator. I want them to realize their potential as senators."

Pickersgill will give up her position as chairwoman of the student services committee while serving as president pro tempore.

Chris Buck will take over as head of student services.

"[He's] going to make an incredible chair," Pickersgill said.
