MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ohio State sweeps Ball State, clinches MIVA regular season title

COLUMBUS, Ohio — For the fourth consecutive season, No. 11 Ohio State University is the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association regular season champions.

Ohio State swept the No. 15 Ball State men's volleyball team 30-26, 30-26, 30-19 on Friday in Columbus, Ohio to win the MIVA title and clinch the No. 1 seed and home court advantage throughout the conference tournament.

The Buckeyes (19-7, 11-1 MIVA) out-hit the Cardinals .318 to .139 and had two outside attackers finish the match with more than 15 kills.

"We played to win and tonight they out-played us," Ball State coach Joel Walton said.

John Klanac had a match-high 18 kills, and Shawn Sangrey had 17 kills, including 10 kills in the first game.

Outside attacker Eric Schulte had a team-high 12 kills.

This is the first time in Ohio State program history it has won four consecutive MIVA titles.

With this loss, the Cardinals (17-10, 6-5 MIVA) will most likely drop to the No. 4 seed for the conference tournament, and could play Ohio State in the semifinals.

Ball State will close out its regular season with a conference match against No. 13 Loyola University at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Worthen Arena.
