Second campus forum last chance for Ball State community to comment

It's crunch time for university officials to determine budget cuts, and it's a last chance for students and faculty to comment and ask questions before the suggested cuts are submitted to the Board of Trustees for approval.

Howard said in an e-mail the format would be similar to the last campus forum, with opening remarks by President Jo Ann Gora, then a presentation by Howard followed by a Q-and-A session.

"I will be reviewing all of the areas where we plan on making recommendations," Howard said in the e-mail.

Ball State University officials need to cut $15.2 million from the university budget by June 2011 and about $5 million of that by this June. After Summer 2011, there will be a permanent budget reduction of $7.6 million.

The Financial and Budgetary Affairs Committee met with University Treasurer Randy Howard on Monday morning. Committee member John Ledbetter declined to comment if Howard had offered specific dollar amounts for the suggested budget cuts.

Ledbetter said he assumes more people will participate in the Q-and-A session this time around.

"Maybe they didn't know what to ask last time," he said. "It was probably apparent you couldn't get any solid feedback at that point."
