Office of Student Life announces leadership scholarships

The Office of Student Life at Ball State University announced three different scholarships for incoming freshmen, first-year students and undergraduates.

The Parent Advisory Council scholarship is for incoming freshmen who have a GPA of 3.0 or higher in high school. Applications were due on March 1 and ten students will be selected for the awards. They will be notified early April.

The Hiatt and Wickham scholarship was created in the year 2000, after a Ball State alumna donated $50,000 to the University to establish a student leadership award naming it after two Ball State staff members. Applications are open for freshmen that are a part of Excellence In Leadership and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicants should also list their involvement in other Ball State organizations, associate director of student life Mitch Isaacas said.

"I want students to know that there are benefits for being a part of organizations," he said. "Not only do you get experience, but sometimes there are scholarships and other benefits."

Applications for the Hiatt and Wickham scholarship are due Wednesday. More than one applicant may be chosen depending on the amount of money available and the quality of applications received.

The Undergraduate Leadership scholarship was created by Brad Hasting and his wife, both Ball State alumni. The scholarhip is awarded to dedicated student leaders each year. Applicants have to have a leadership role and have good academic standing to be eligible.

Applications for the Undergraduate Leadership scholarship are due April 1.
