MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State's Ebel named MIVA Defensive Player of the Week

For the third time this season, Ball State University libero Billy Ebel has won the conference's weekly award.

Ebel was named the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Cardinals in digs in its two wins during the weekend.

The senior finished the Ball State's two-match East Coast road trip with a combined 26 digs, including a match-high 17 digs in a four-game win against George Mason University. He also had a team-high .960 reception percentage as Ball State (12-7, 4-4 MIVA) swept Rutgers-Newark University.

With nine matches remaining in the regular season, Ebel is second in the MIVA and eighth in the nation with a 3.08 digs per game average.

This is Ebel's first conference award since being named the defensive player of the week in back-to-back weeks to open the season. His three player of the week awards is also the most any MIVA player has received this season.

Ebel will be matched up with another libero in the nation's top 15 for digs per game average as Ball State will play No. 3 Cal State Northridge at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Worthen Arena. The Matadors starting libero Ali'i Keohohou is 12th in the nation with a 2.82 digs per game average.
