MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State gets 2 votes in coaches poll for 2nd straight week

For the second consecutive week, the Ball State University men's volleyball team received two votes in the national rankings.

The Cardinals remained 22 votes outside of the top 15 in the newest coaches poll released Monday.

Ball State had the same number of votes from last week after splitting its two-match conference homestand, including a five-game loss to No. 15 Lewis University on Friday. Prior to that match, Ball State rallied from a two-game deficit to defeat IPFW on Thursday.

This is the seventh consecutive poll the Cardinals (9-5, 3-4 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) have been outside of the top 15. Ball State was ranked No. 11 in the preseason poll but fell out of the rankings following a season-opening loss to Loyola University.

The coaches poll is comprised of 16 voters, including Ball State coach Joel Walton.

Three MIVA teams were ranked in this week's poll.

Loyola moved up one spot to No. 11 receiving 80 votes — 11 more votes than in last week's poll — following a road win against Lewis. The Ramblers (10-0, 6-0 MIVA) remain the only undefeated team in the nation.

Ohio State University received 45 votes to stay at No. 13, despite losing to No. 10 UC Santa Barbara in the Volleyball Hall of Fame Tournament championship match. In addition, Lewis remained at No. 15 after going 1-1 last week.

The Cardinals will not play again before the next week's coaches poll is released. Ball State's next match will be against Grand Canyon on March 9 as the team begins a three-match West Coast road trip that includes matches against No. 1 Pepperdine University and No. 5 UCLA.
