MEN'S TENNIS: Pavia garners weekly MAC award

Pavia and No. 1 doubles partner Dalton Albertin defeated No. 36 Illinois on Friday

After helping defeat the No. 36-ranked No. 1 doubles team in the country last week, Ball State University men's tennis junior Eduardo Pavia was named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week on Wednesday.

The award is the first of the season for Pavia.

Pavia's highlight of the week came on Friday when he and No. 1 doubles partner Dalton Albertin defeated No. 36 University of Illinois' Marek Czerwinski and Abe Souza 8-6 to capture the Cardinals' only win of the day.

Pavia has also excelled as the Cardinals' No. 1 singles player; he defeated Butler University's Ben Raynauld in a barnburner, 6-7 (5), 6-4 (14-12), Saturday at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.

In all this season, Pavia is 11-2 at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles.

Pavia and the Cardinals continue play Saturday as they travel to Boise, Idaho for the two-day Boise State Invitational.
