Indiana unemployment rate rises slightly to 9.8%

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana's unemployment rate seems to be holding steady.

The state Department of Workforce Development said Friday unemployment inched up just one tenth of a percentage point to 9.8 percent for February.

Indiana was the only state among its neighbors to report a jobless rate less than 10 percent and the only one of the five to report year-to-year unemployment growing less than 1 percentage point.

The agency says there were more people working in several employment sectors, including manufacturing and professional and business services. Workforce Commissioner Teresa Voors says that sector includes temporary staffing and often predicts future job growth.
