The Ball State University softball team dropped previously undefeated University of Tennessee at Martin 5-0 today behind a complete game, one-hit shutout from ace Elizabeth Milian (5-1).
The senior struck out nine batters and gave up a meaningless single to the Skyhawks' Jenny Bain in the top of the fourth. That runner was eliminated, however, when pinch runner Ashley Byrd was caught stealing second by Cardinals' catcher Amanda Montalto.
Ball State left fielder Amanda Carpenter provided all the offense the Cardinals would need on the day. Carpenter went 1-for-2 with a two-out, two-RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth, breaking the game wide open.
The Skyhawks, who opened their season 8-0, received their first loss at the hands of the Cardinals (6-4).
