It doesn't help that Muncie Gras was scheduled a week earlier on the calendar than last year.
It has been rescheduled this year for March 20 because of the forecast for more snow on top of what's already covering the streets and sidewalks in icy sheets.
Chris Piche, an owner at the Fickle Peach, said he thinks postponing the event will make it better for everyone involved. Every year, it's a battle with the weather, he said.
Piche said he will treat this weekend like any other at the bar and he doesn't expect a huge crowd to come out for the holiday.
"If it does pop with business, that's great," he said. "But I think people are going to save their money and themselves from getting out in this weather."
Piche said some profit from sales during Muncie Gras at Fickle Peach will go toward supporting Heart of the City events such as Rib Fest and Spring Zing.
"I'm a bar owner, but I have three small children," he said. "I want to be able to take them to things where they don't always see drunk people walking around."
Cheryl Crowder, director of events for Downtown Development, said she made a lot of calls yesterday, and most of the people she talked to were receptive to the change of date.
"My phones are all hot," she said yesterday.
Crowder said Muncie Gras is usually set up as an outdoor event, and it's never been postponed for weather in the nine years since it started. She said the planning committee was concerned with getting rid of the snow already on the roads and the snow that's predicted to fall this weekend.
"It's always a gamble with the weather, but we're going to [count on] the weather is better [next month]," she said.
The Heorot will still have it's scheduled Muncie Gras events this weekend, including clowns and a four-legged lady, despite the couple inches of snow some are expecting.
Loren Foley, owner at the Heorot, said he likes to provide a variety of entertainment at the bar.
Tickets for Freak Show a Go Go on Friday are available at the Heorot, Cirilla's, Wishbone Gifts and Toys Forever. General admission tickets are $3. VIP tickets are $12, and they include table service, a private go-go stage, and VIP bar.
