Los Angeles company accepting summer internship applications

The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Foundation, based in Los Angeles, is accepting applications for its summer internship program.

In the past, Ball State University has sent 11 students to this internship program. Nancy Robinson, education program manager, said the Ball State students have been great to work with and all have been prepared and professional.

The internship program is divided into 30 categories and is looking to fill more than 40 industrywide internships with college and graduate students from across the country. Certain categories will have more than one intern.

Robinson said the foundation is divided into categories such as commercials, live event production, public relations, television directing, sports production and more.

The foundation places students in different companies throughout the country, but most of the companies are based in Los Angeles.

Robinson said the foundation has relationships with different companies that agree to train students on the future of television through their internship program. A few of last year's companies included HBO, The Disney Channel, E! Entertainment and Fox Reality.

When applying for the internship, students won't know which company they will work for, Robinson said, and the interns' duties depend on which company they are placed in.

According to a press release, interns work 40 hours per week and receive a $4,000 stipend at the end of the eight-week program.

The program has been hailed for more than a decade as one of the top ten internships in the country, according to the foundation's Web site.

If applying for the program, Robinson recommends sending a well-written letter of intent, submitting materials on time and having the necessary background needed to be considered for the applicant's category of choice. Applications are due March 15 and can be filled out at emmysfoundation.org.
