LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Snow removal comments one-sided

I am a senior at Ball State and have been working for Landscape services for all four years of my college career. I have been reading articles in the paper about our snow removal, and I along with my coworkers do not appreciate the kinds of comments being given. The articles have been too one-sided for my likings and I'd like to say something on our side. Students, if you're paying for higher education, why do you want classes cancelled? I'm guessing you do not want to pay money to sleep in. Your dorm room isn't a glorified hotel room, and you are not on vacation, you are at school. It sounds to me that we did too good of a job keeping the sidewalks and roads clear to keep the school open. And do you think we got to sleep in? No. The full-timers were working anywhere from 4am to 9pm and on their weekends. Students like me and others came in during odd hours throughout the day and off our normal work schedule to help. And have you ever been off campus? I live off campus south of Jackson St. BSU roads are pristine compared to Muncie city streets, so I wouldn't complain. Next time before you open your mouth and start writing or commenting, you need to get your facts straight. When snow is falling continuously, it accumulates after you sweep it off. This is a fact. Thus, it takes hours to do just one area. Until you pick up a shovel and do it yourself, you won't have a clue. Maybe you should point the finger at administration for not canceling your classes if you thought the conditions were too bad to walk, not the people doing their jobs.

If you have any other problems, come talk to us. We'd be more than happy to tell you all about it. I'm being serious. If we can reach one student and tell them the real deal, we'd be happy. Please take this note seriously. Come talk to some of us at South Grounds. You can find it on the BSU map. It's just south of Cooper/West Quad and west of Lucina Hall.

We work hard at what we do. We don't mind not getting recognized, but we hate being underappreciated.
