Kappa Delta to host Shamrock'N'Bowl

Bowling is just a recreational activity for some, but it can help save children's lives this weekend.

Ball State University students and the Muncie community can make a difference in a child's life by bowling today at 1 p.m. in the Kappa Delta sorority's Shamrock'N'Bowl at Munsee Lanes.

Kappa Delta chapters have raised more than $7.1 million to prevent child abuse, with $7,000 raised last year.

Shamrock'N'Bowl Chair and senior Kim Fox said she hopes to have every lane filled again this year.

"My freshman year we started with only a few bowling lanes filled. Then the next year we had the whole bowling alley playing," she said.

Teams of five will play three games to support Prevent Child Abuse America and Very Special Arts of Indiana, an affiliate of international education program VSA Arts. While bowling, participants also will enter in raffles and drawings for a variety of prizes. Prizes will go to the woman, man and team with the highest score as well as the person that wears the most green.

People also can enter to win a 50/50 raffle for $1 per ticket, with a cash prize of $700.

Teams can sign up at the door for $50 per team. The price includes three games of bowling and shoe rental for all five team members. Spectators can watch the event for $2.

While competition is high at the Shamrock'N'Bowl, every skill level is encouraged to participate. Kappa Delta members are serving as lane coaches as well, helping bowlers perfect their game.

Fox said the best part of the tournament is seeing the mix of people playing.

"Every year it gets bigger and better and it's a fun experience with friends, the Greek community and Muncie community," she said.
