GYMNASTICS: Kent State holds off Ball State on Alumni Day

Emmons nearly pulls off upset of MAC's top gymnast

The Ball State University gymnastics team fell to Kent State University by a score of 194.5-193.15.

And in a matchup of two of the top all-around gymnasts in the Mid-American Conference, Kent State's Christine Abou-Mitri, the top scoring gymnast in the conference this year, held off Ball State's Brittney Emmons 39.1-38.975.

Freshman Tiffany Brodbeck was one of the Cardinal leaders on the day. She had three scores above 9.6, including a third-place finish on the floor exercise with a 9.775.

The Golden Flashes' (7-2, 4-0 MAC) were also led by Lindsay Runyan and Sam Heydlauff. Runyan won the uneven bars and Heydlauff took the floor.

The Cardinals had one victory on the day. The team won the balance beam 48.3-48.1

Ball State (5-7, 0-4 MAC) will return to action Friday when it faces No. 4 University of Florida and the University of North Carolina in Gainesville, Fla.
