FOOTBALL: Ball State announces 2010 recruiting class

Parrish expects a quarterback competition

Stan Parrish announced a 21-member recruiting class Wednesday afternoon, confident that it includes future stars for Ball State University.

The focus of the recruiting class was defensive backs, but Parrish said he added a quarterback with the potential to have immediate impact.

Keith Wenning, from Coldwater, Ohio, signed his Letter of Intent to play at Ball State next year. Parrish expects him to compete with Kelly Page and Aaron Mershman for playing time immediately.

'I fully think we'll have a tremendous competition amongst those three,' Parrish said. 'All the positions on our team are open. We didn't win any championships last fall.'

Page started seven games for the Cardinals before breaking his thumb and missing the rest of the season. Mershman redshirted, but became the primary backup after Page's injury.

Parrish is also excited the possibility of the three cornerbacks he signed playing immediately. ' ' '
'I think they can all play, much like the linebackers I stood here and talked about a year ago,' he said. 'We needed help at corner desperately, particularly from a depth standpoint.'
