Chili Bowl to serve up to 600

The Ball State University Ceramics Guild and the Atrium food court are collaborating on the annual Chili Bowl today in the Atrium from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Rod Brooks, Atrium general manager, said staff will make enough chili to serve around 600 people.

Those participating in the event can go through the Atrium food court lines and specify that they want the chili. The cashier will print out a receipt for that person to take to the chili bowl line, which will be near the Ball State Bookstore, Brooks said.

Tim Compton, president of the Ceramics Guild, said the cost is $7; this includes a 16 oz. drink, a bowl of chili and a ceramic bowl to take home. Students and faculty are able to choose from three types of chili — vegetarian, traditional and white chicken chili — and are able to include an array of toppings with their chili, he said.

Muncie Mission and Second Harvest Food Bank will receive 75 percent of the proceeds. The remaining 25 percent will help support the Ceramics Guild's efforts to bring visiting artists to campus, Compton said.

The group has been making ceramic bowls for the event since the fall, Compton said. It takes about one week to finish one bowl. They have made 636 bowls for the event.

Compton said the event is a time for them to raise money for local charities and to do something for Muncie. They are hoping to raise about $2,300 from the event.
