AT&T has activated a new 3G cell site in Muncie that will provide better coverage to Ball State University's campus.
According to a press release, the new cell site is part of AT&T's ongoing efforts to extend its 3G network, as well as contribute to its ongoing investment of building the broadband network. This growth of the broadband network will create jobs and help stimulate economic growth.
'As part of the Ball State community, we're always looking for new opportunities to provide enhanced coverage and our investment in the local wireless network is just one way to accomplish this,' Brian Ducharme, vice president and general manager for AT&T Indiana said in a press release.
Jonathan Huer, director of Emerging Technologies and Media Development at Ball State, said the new 3G cell site will increase coverage and provide better service to Ball State's campus.
Huer said that within campus there are many iPhones or other devices being used by people in a small area, which slows down the download of data and services. However, with the increase of coverage through the new 3G cell site, it will create better and faster service.
The 3G cell site will not only provide more service to the small areas of Ball State's campus, it will let users do things faster; such as downloading files, checking their e-mail, surfing the web, or whatever else they are doing, Huer said.
According to the press release, AT&T's 3G cell sites recently completed a nationwide software upgrade, which will allow the 3G network to have even faster speed.
'Expanded wireless access is a real plus for the community,' Steve Jones, director of the Institute of Wireless Innovation at Ball State, said in the press release.
