WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards fall to Chips on the road

Maggert's 1,000th point not enough for Ball State

Ball State suffered its first conference loss of the season at the hands of Central Michigan Tuesday night 87-80.

The Chippewas used a 16-0 first half run to take the lead and then withstood a Cardinal rally with six minutes remaining to claim the victory. The loss is only coach Kelly Packard's third in Mid-American Conference action.

Junior forward Emily Maggert registered her eighth double double of the season with 21 points and 11 rebounds. As a result of the impressive effort, Maggert eclipsed the 1,000th point plateau. Maggert is the 21st player in Ball State history to do so and the second on the season. Senior guard Audrey McDonald did so earlier this season.

The loss drops Ball State back under .500 with a 7-8 record overall and a 2-1 record in conference action.
