An increase in the number of international programs is attracting more students to study in other countries.
The Rinker Center for International Programs at Ball State University had its study abroad fair Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Atrium.
About 350 students signed up to receive more information about the study abroad programs. Although the number of students who signed up Wednesday was less than last semester, there was an increase in the number of students that actually went abroad.
'It went really well. We had about 500 students sign up last semester, but the weather was nice back then,' Director of Study Abroad Jim Coffin said.
He said the Rinker Center has seen more students visit other countries because of the different of locations that have emerged in the last few years.
'There will always be new programs,' Coffin said. 'Faculty members also create and lead new programs so there's always something new.'
The Rinker Center has opened new centers in Costa Rica and Worcester, England. Coffin said the Rinker Center is working on introducing the Groningen Center in the Netherlands to the study abroad program in the summer.
The center also offers internship programs, exchange programs and summer study programs.
Coffin said students are always encouraged to take part in the study abroad programs.
'We will be sending e-mails to students that signed up and to the rest of the student community afterwards,' he said. 'But students can always take the initiative.'
