MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State, Rutgers-Newark tied after two games

Earlier in the week, coach Joel Walton said Rutgers-Newark University was a better team than the one that lost twice to Ball State University last season.

The 12-year head coach wasn't lying.

Ball State and Rutgers-Newark have split the first two games of their best-of-five match Saturday at Worthen Arena.

The Cardinals won the first game 30-26 before losing the second game in overtime 31-29.

Outside attacker Jamion Hartley has a match-high 10 kills as Ball State is out-hitting Rutgers-Newark .254 to .250. In addition, outside attacker Lee Meyer has six kills.

Ball State has not lost to Rutgers-Newark since 2002.
