WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Boos will sign a one-year extension

The conclusion of the 2009 season last month wasn't what women's volleyball coach Dave Boos was looking for.

Ball State University finished 15-16, including a four-set loss to first place Ohio University in the conference tournament quarterfinals.

However, Boos was reaffirmed by Athletics Director Tom Collins on Tuesday afternoon.
Boos, whose initial three-year contract expires at the end of January, was offered a one-year extension for the 2010 season.

"I'm very pleased with the offer and our situation," Boos said. "To be honest, I didn't expect anything less than the opportunity to come back next year with what we have accomplished."

Boos' initial contract, which was obtained through a public records request, was a three-year agreement signed in 2007. In his three seasons at Ball State, the Cardinals are a combined 32-62 and have advanced to the Mid-American Conference Tournament quarterfinals the last two seasons.

Collins and Associate Athletics Director Karin Lee were both unavailable for comment about the contract extension, having left the office upon completing the evaluation meeting of Boos.

Boos earns $76,000 per year. The coach said his new contract will be drawn up and signed after Jan. 1, 2010, when his current contract is closer to expiration.
