Honors class to donate $10,000 to local nonprofits

History professor Greg Witkowski's honors class has the task of distributing $10,000 to nonprofit organizations in Delaware County.

The class will give a presentation about their donations at 3 p.m. Dec. 10 in the Pineshelf Room of the L.A. Pittenger Student Center.

The class received applications from eight local organizations with total proposed project costs estimated at $45,000. To make their decisions, the students analyzed the organizations' proposals, met with leadership of each organization and weighed the effectiveness of each project.

The project was funded by the Sunshine Lady Foundation, a private family foundation established by Doris Buffett — the sister of billionaire investor Warren Buffett — to encourage various organizations across the nation to promote community service of young people.
