MEN'S BASKETBALL: Ball State announces TV schedule

The Ball State University men's basketball team will have at least three opportunities in the first two months of the season to show Indiana where it stands among the best college basketball programs in the state.

The Ball State athletics department, in conjunction with the Ball State Sports Network, on Monday released the television broadcast schedule for November and December, and the Cardinals men's team will have three games televised by the station.

Friday's season opener against Valparaiso University, a Dec. 2 home matchup against rival Butler University and the Dec. 9 road game at Indiana State University will be televised by BSSN, which is anchored by WIPB in Muncie, WHME in South Bend, WNDA in Jeffersonville, WYCS in Louisville and WJTS in Jasper. The game will also be featured on tape delay in the Noblesville, Fort Wayne and Indianapolis markets.

The Cardinals — co-Mid-American Conference West Division champions last season — were predicted to finish in fourth place in the West this season by conference media. Ball State's 7-9 MAC record last season was good enough to share the MAC West crown with Central Michigan University and Western Michigan University.

The Cardinals will be anchored by an experienced frontcourt, led by sophomore center Jarrod Jones. Jones, the 2008-09 MAC Freshman of the Year, averaged 11.2 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game last season.

Friday's televised opener against Valparaiso is set for a 7 p.m. tip-off at Worthen Arena.
