SOCCER: Cards drop 5th in a row against Ohio

For the second straight weekend, the Ball State University soccer team has failed to get a win. Ball State fell to the University of Akron 3-0 on Sunday afternoon, their fifth-consecutive loss.

The Cardinals held a 7-5 shot advantage over the Zips in a scoreless first half of play. Both teams were even in corner kick attempts with five in the first half.

The second half showed to be a different story from the first, with three Akron goals to seal the win.

The first Akron goal came in the 60th minute when Akron's Rachel Phillip poked a rebound past freshman goalkeeper Nicole Wood.

Three minutes later, Phillip struck again with an unassisted goal as she beat Wood with a shot into the side of the net. The third and final goal for the Zips came in the 73rd minute from a direct kick by Andrea Schweisthal.

Missy Gordon, who leads the team in shots, took six shots in the match but was unable to convert.

Ball State returns home next weekend for their final two home games of the regular season. Their first match is on Friday against Northern Illinois University.

Coach Michael Lovett was unavailable for comment.
