FOOTBALL: Temple takes 17-13 lead into fourth quarter

PHILADELPHIA - A couple of big plays went in favor of Ball State University for once, but Temple University was able to take a 17-13 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Cardinals scored twice in just over two minutes to take a 13-10 lead with 8:47 left in the third quarter. First, quarterback Kelly Page connected with wide receiver Tori Gibson for a 50-yard touchdown.

Ball State's defense then forced a punt, but the snap went over Jeff Wathne's head. Eric Williams finally came up with the ball in the end zone for his first career touchdown. But for the second time in two games, Ian McGarvey missed an extra point.

On the next possession, Temple drove 60 yards on nine plays to take the lead back. Running back Bernard Pierce scored on a two-yard run. On that drive, Pierce became the first Owls freshman to rush for 100-yards in three consecutive games.

After three quarters Page is 17-for-26 for 179 yards. He has a touchdown and interception. Gibson has seven catches for 79 yards and Briggs Orsbon has 78 yards on nine receptions.
