Behind a third place finish from senior Ali Bishel, the Ball State University cross country team took 13th place overall in the women's gold division at the Notre Dame Invitational Friday.
The Cardinals top runner in each race she has ran in this season, Bishel clocked in a time of 17:44 to earn third place in the meet. Ayla Mitchell of Oshkosh won the Invitational, crossing the line 13 seconds ahead of Bishel.
Ball State's second fastest runner was senior Sarah Kehe who finished 65th overall (19:13). Redshirt freshman Christine Talhelm put in the Cardinals third-best effort finishing 13 seconds behind Kehe in 77th place (19:26).
Three other runners placed for Ball State including: Freshman Allison Blanck, MaryKate Mellen and Andrea Korzan who finished 87th (19:37), 109th (20:01) and 119th (20:37), respectively.
Grand Valley State University took home the title with an overall score of 48 points. Ball State's top five runners posted a score of 341 points. Fellow Mid-American Conference competitor Eastern Michigan University finished in fourth with 160 points.
The cross country team has a week off before returning to action Saturday, Oct. 17 when Ball State travels to Indiana University for the Sam Bell Invitational.
