Fans lined up outside of the John R. Emens Auditorium as early as 6 p.m. Friday to claim seats nearest to the stage for the Styx with Kansas Rock Doubleheader concert.
For senior Rachel Allen, her aunt and mother, the trek to the venue was a five-minute walk from Rachel's residence hall on campus.
For other superfans, the route to Emens was not nearly as short. Margaret Duty of Lakemoore, Ill., and Jennifer "Jen R N" Greenlief of Kenosha, Wisc., made the seven-hour trek from Dubuque, Iowa, to see the band for the second time in as many days.
Dressed in band T-shirts and carrying gift bags of memorabilia, the self-dubbed "Styx Chyx" Duty and Greenlief were fifth and sixth in line.
Collectively, the pair has seen the band live in concert more than 350 times.
"After that, I stopped keeping track," Greenlief said. "We're on the weekly plan to see them numerous times every year."
