University Police are still investigating an armed robbery in a parking lot near Scheumann Stadium on Monday, Director of Public Safety Gene Burton said.
Two Ball State University students were confronted by an man with a gun in the overflow lot on the west side of Tillotson Avenue near the stadium on Monday morning.
One student was robbed of her purse, but neither student was injured, according to a campuswide public safety notice e-mailed to students.
Burton said there was no new information available on the case as of 6 p.m. Monday.
Police say the robber is a white male, 18-20 years old and approximately 6 feet tall. He was armed with a black handgun, wore a black-and-white hoodie, black stocking cap and baggy jeans. He was described as having a bony face, black goatee and dark eyebrows. He was seen fleeing the area in what appeared to be a Lincoln Town Car.
The notice was meant to act as a reminder to all students to practice safety habits.
Burton said students should remember the importance of safety in numbers and not walk by themselves late at night or early in the morning. Students should be aware of their surroundings and trust their instincts, he said.
Police are reminding students to be "extra cautious" when traveling to or from campus in the morning or evening.
Burton said students can take advantage of the Charlie's Charter escort service and shuttles offered by the university to help protect themselves.
He said he does not know whether the security cameras in the parking lot picked up the robbery. The cameras are monitored 24 hours a day, Burton said.
Anyone with information about the robbery should contact University Police at 765-285-1111.
