White River cleanup planned for Saturday

Several Ball State University student organizations will participate in Muncie Delaware Clean and Beautiful's second annual White River cleanup Saturday. The cleanup could be the largest in the river's history, cleanup coordinator Layne Cameron said.

Cameron, who is vice president of MDCB and associate director of University Communications, said Muncie residents, Ball State Freshman Connections students and the Natural Resources Club and Students for a Sustainable Campus will wade through the White River, picking up trash, such as water bottles, plastic grocery bags and auto parts, along the way.

This is a community event and everyone is invited to participate, Cameron said. Registration for the cleanup will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Westfield Park, and the first bus transporting volunteers to the river will leave at about 9 a.m., he said.

Last year's event had a record 480 people show up to help clean the river and even more are expected to participate this weekend, Cameron said.
