Application forms for two of Ball State's Homecoming events are due this afternoon and the Homecoming Steering Committee is urging students to sign up and make this week truly "the best week ever."
Homecoming Talent Search Chairwoman Sheri Nielcamp said Homecoming 2009's theme, "Best Week Ever," is a spin-off of the show "America's Got Talent" and is meant to show off students' skills through events and entertainment.
Talent Search applications and emcee audition applications are due to the Alumni Center by 4 p.m. today.
Though these applications are not submitted with such frenzy as Air Jam's, Steering Committee members said the number of students signed up for events is comparable to, and may even surpass, last year's numbers.
Chanel Richards, publicity chairwoman, said the 20 entry slots for Air Jam were filled just shortly after doors were opened for submission last Thursday morning. However, there are incentives to auditioning to be an emcee or performing in the Talent Search.
Jada Buchanan, awards and judges chairwoman, said being an emcee for homecoming events is a great honor.
"You run the show," she said. "You're the main speaker; your job is to entertain the crowd and keep them energetic, to keep students pumped to support whatever group they're there to see."
The Talent Search offers a scholarship, which can be applied to tuition and fees for the Spring Semester, for the winners of each of its seven categories. Winners in each category are awarded a $500 prize from the Ashley Foundation, and the overall winner will receive an additional $500.
Buchanan said more homecoming entries and liability forms will be due Wednesday.
