Heading into Mid-American Conference play, Ball State University is riding on momentum and confidence. After two consecutive victories, the team is more focused on this weekend's matches against Kent State University Friday and the University at Buffalo Sunday.
"We're coming off two wins and we are more energized for this weekend," coach Michael Lovett said. "We are more focused and it is time for us to prove to ourselves we can win in the MAC."
The Cardinals' preparation for the Golden Flashes and the Bulls this weekend has been more than preparing for the team itself, there are other factors to plan for. Kent State's soccer field is smaller than the field at Ball State. To prepare for the smaller field, the team has been practicing on its smaller practice field.
"The smaller field will be a challenge for us," Lovett said. "Kent State doesn't lose at home much because of the smaller dimensions."
Another factor the team will prepare for this weekend is the artificial grass Buffalo has on its field. When the field is not regular grass, the game speed is much faster, Lovett said.
With the Cardinals coming off two victories, Lovett said he expects his team to come out strong this weekend and give good performances. He said he thinks his team is well prepared and has had good attitudes this week in practice.
However, Lovett said he thinks that if that though his team wants to succeed in the MAC this year, they will have to be strong every match.
"The MAC is a very physical league, and we have to be strong and play well," Lovett said. "We can't take a day off because in this league, anyone can beat anyone."
