Ball State University students interested in historical crime dramas and Johnny Depp can now have both. Friday Night Filmworks, presented by University Program Board, will play the movie "Public Enemies" at 9 p.m. today in Pruis Hall.
Public Enemies tells the story of Indiana native John Dillinger (Johnny Depp), an infamous bank robber living in 1930s Chicago, according to imdb.com. Dillinger robbed big businesses and banks, but left "ordinary" people alone, which made him something of a folk hero. The movie also follows Dillinger's love life and introduces the audience to Melvin Purvis, the FBI agent who would eventually track him down.
The Public Enemies crew, including Depp, spent a few days filming in Crown Point, Ind., where Dillinger escaped from Lake County Jail in 1934.
Admission to the movie is free for all Ball State University students with ID and $1 for guests.
UPB Program Director John Speer said the Friday Night Filmworks movie order was decided ahead of time and is scheduled to play in the order that the university can obtain the films' copyrights.
Next week's movie will be "Stand and Deliver."
