MEN'S BASKETBALL: Taylor announces changes to coaching staff

Mitch Gilfillan, a former player of Ball State University men's basketball coach Billy Taylor joined the program as director of basketball operations.

The announcement was made on Tuesday along with the promotion of Bob Simmons to associate head coach. The Director of Basketball Operations position was opened last week when Matt Laur left to become assistant coach at SIU-Edwardsville.

Simmons has been at Ball State since Taylor was hired three years ago. He also coached with Taylor at Lehigh University for five years. During his time in Muncie, Simmons has played a key role in recruiting, including last year's Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year Jarrod Jones.

Gilfillan played for the pair at Lehigh, where he was a part of the winningest class in school history. He graduated in 2006 and earned his law degree from Valparaiso University this year.
