FOOTBALL: Ball State's Lewis named to watch list for Doak Walker Award

Ball State University running back MiQuale Lewis was named a candidate for a national award.

Lewis was one of more than 40 players selected Tuesday to the watch list for the 2009 Doak Walker Award, which is given to the nation's top college running back.

Entering his senior season, Lewis set Ball State's single-season record with 1,736 rushing yards last season. The 2008 all-conference player also led the nation with 22 rushing touchdowns.

Lewis was one of five Mid-American Conference running backs named to the watch list.

The semifinalists for the Doak Walker Award will be selected by the Southern Methodist University Athletic Forum Board of Directors on Nov. 11. In addition, the finalists and winner will be chosen by a national selection committee comprised of former NFL and college running backs, media members and selected special representatives at the end of the regular season.

This is the 20th year the Doak Walker Award - which was named after the Southern Methodist three-time All-American running back - has been presented to the nation's best running back. No Ball State player has ever won the Doak Walker Award.
