Update: Police give all clear after bomb threat at LaFollette Complex

Corporal Craig Hodson from University Police Department said the search in LaFollette Complex and the surrounding areas is complete and no bombs were found. Police gave the all clear and people are allowed to enter and exit the building.

Gene Burton, Ball State University director of Public Safety, said a bomb threat was called in from an emergency blue-light phone on campus at an unspecified time.

He said the call was vague and it couldn't be determined whether the threat was directed at a building or the surrounding area.

Officers from the University Police Department and Muncie Police Department sealed off the area and were not letting any students into LaFollette Complex. Students in the building had not been evacuated.

Burton said Housing was notified of the situation and Housing Directors and Residence Assistants were given details.

Burton said Public Safety left the decision of whether to tell residents about the bomb threat up to Housing. He said he didn't know what Housing had decided to do. A representative from Schmidt/Wilson Halls said Housing issued a freeze, meaning students could not go in or out of residence halls in the area.

MPD said participants of the Relay for Life cancer walk at LaFollette Field have been evacuated to Worthen Arena. The Muncie Fire Department was blocking McKinley Avenue from Bethel to Neely avenues.

Burton said before the all clear that police were doing everything they could to make sure students were safe.

"Personally, I think it's probably a hoax," he said. "It was probably somebody that hit the button on the way home and thought it was a good prank they were pulling. But we're going to check everything just to be safe."
