SOFTBALL: Cards split doubleheader to clinch spot in MAC Tourney

After losing in game one, the Ball State University softball team made short work of Western Michigan University in the second game.

The Cardinals won the game 10-2 in five innings. The Cardinals scored three runs in the first inning to set the pace for the rest of the game.

In the second inning, Ball State scored five runs, three of which came from a home run from Amanda Montalto. The freshman ended the day 4-5 from the plate with six RBIs, two runs and two home runs.

Laura Masch picked up the win for Ball State striking out three in five innings.

The Cardinals improve to 23-18 on the season and 13-2 in the MAC.

With this win Ball State remains in first place in the MAC West Division and clinched a stop in the conference tournament.

Ball State is next in action Tuesday when it travels to Morehead State University for a doubleheader.
