PRSSA hosts Chili Challenge

Cardinal Chili Challenge will offer a variety of sweet, spicy and vegetarian concoctions at PRSSA's annual chili cook off.

The Public Relations Student Society of America has put on the chili challenge annually for more than 10 years, Katie Gammon, PRSSA special events director, said.

Gammon said the event will be from noon to 2 p.m. today at University Green, with the judging taking place the half hour before.

Different types of chili, including meatless chili for those observing Lent, will be offered, she said.

This year, 11 teams from the greek community, residence halls, faculty and a local church are competing, Gammon said.

Tickets were pre-sold during the week for $3 and will be sold at the event for $4, she said. Tickets allow guests to eat all the chili they want.

Local celebrity judges, Mayor Sharon McShurley, sophomore and Colts cheerleader Breanna Fonner, senior women's basketball player Porchia Green, senior men's basketball player Brandon Lampley and Max FM DJ Randy Rankin, will be there to taste the chili and decide the winner, Gammon said. Max FM will also provide DJ MacKenzie Lee as an MC for the afternoon.

Gammon said PRSSA holds the event to bring together different organizations and students from campus.

"We just want to get everyone from campus to mingle and get our name out there," Gammon said. "It's about more than being a fundraiser."
