AT ISSUE: Students can only benefit from Ball State Bold: Investing in the Future fundraising campaign reaching 85 percent of its goal

An additional 200 scholarships for students could soon become a reality if the Ball State Bold campaign continues swiftly toward its goal of $200 million.

The university is just $30 million away from its goal. Some may remember President Jo Ann Gora making an announcement Sept. 5 during the Ball State University versus Navy football game. At the time the university had $122.8 million; it is now at $170.2 million.

In six short months $47.4 million was raised to benefit Ball State students and the Ball State community.

In addition to beginning 200 new scholarships for students, the Ball State Bold campaign also has allocated money to attract higher quality, more prestigious faculty to the university. While not every student will reap the benefits of one or two high quality faculty members, they could create a ripple effect and bring even more high quality faculty to campus.

If nothing else, those who are lucky enough to study under these faculty members will benefit from the faculty member's experience. So while it may not benefit every student it is still benefiting some.

The money raised will also benefit students by adding 100 immersive learning opportunities for students across all disciplines. Students who participate in these programs are able to get in-depth, hands-on training and experience in their perspective fields. Offering additional opportunities to students will better prepare them for their own careers or show them that they should pursue a different career. The university has been tirelessly contacting potential donors, alumni and everyone in between to raise money to improve the quality of the education students receive while attending Ball State.

Despite the economic crunch, almost all of the money has been raised already. The university's efforts to provide students with a better education are admirable and should be emulated by colleges throughout the state and country.
