More than half of the players on the No. 15 Ball State University men's volleyball team received a conference honor Thursday.
Eleven Cardinals were named to the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Academic All-Conference Team.
To be eligible for the team, a player must have at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average at the end of the Fall Semester.
Senior outside attacker Mark Termion and middle attacker Andy Nelson both had a team-high 4.00 cumulative grade point average. This is the fourth consecutive year Termion, who graduated last year and is enrolled in graduate school, made the academic team.
Along with Termion, senior outside attacker Todd Chamberlain and senior middle attacker Ben Irwin also made the team for the fourth time in their careers.
Outside attacker James Emming, middle attacker J.D. Gasparovic, outside attacker Lee Meyer and outside attacker Dominic Spadavecchio were named to the academic team for the second consecutive season. Middle attackers Nick Battenberg, Matt McCarthy and setter Ethan Pheister were selected for the first time.
A total of 72 players from the six MIVA teams received the academic honor. Ball State had the third most selections as No. 15 Loyola University had a conference-high 16 players and No. 12 Lewis University had 15 players.
The 18 Ball State players combined to average a 3.21 GPA during the 2008 Fall Semester.
