Hundreds of students from across campus stopped at the Scramble Light Wednesday and Thursday to support Habitat for Humanity's Building Better Communities team and attempt to win a golden toilet.
The big winner of the day was Lisa Nelson, who won the golden toilet.
Nelson said she was at dinner with a friend when she received an e-mail about winning the toilet.
"We were at dinner and just laughed," Nelson said. She was with friends walking barefoot for the TOMS Shoes "One Day Without Shoes" project and filled out a raffle paper, she said.
"It's probably going to just sit in my room," Nelson said. "I'll probably use it as a guest chair."
Kellie Burch, assistant director of client operations for Cardinal Communications, said 191 people entered the raffle and 400 fliers were passed out.
"That was way more than we predicted," Burch said.
The event was an effort to raise awareness about Habitat's Home Discount Center and educate students about the advantages of reusing and volunteering, she said.
Burch said BBC raised $9.10 without trying to.
"We weren't even collecting money," she said. "A few people just really wanted to give us money."
Student and musician Ben Clark played from noon until 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Burch said.
"It was an honor to play for such a great cause," Clark said. "It was fun to sit on the golden toilet and rock out."
Prizes included gift cards from Johnny Carino's Country Italian, the Olive Garden and Domino's Pizza, Burch said.
Burch said the event took a lot of hard work from everyone to put this event together.
"The results and feedback was so much more than we anticipated," Burch said. "I am so glad we were able to reach out to so many people."
