Ball State University fans might be wondering what could have been.
Kansas State University quarterback Josh Freeman was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the 17th pick in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft today.
When Ball State quarterback Nate Davis declared for the Draft in January, Scout.com analyst Chris Stueber said he was rated ahead of Freeman.
Now, Freeman went in the first round while Davis is likely going to have to wait until the fifth or sixth round to hear his name called, Stueber said Wednesday.
Freeman was the third quarterback taken in the Draft. Matthew Stafford of the University of Georgia went first overall to the Detroit Lions and Mark Sanchez of the University of Southern California went to fifth overall to the New York Jets.
Davis will now have to contend with players such as Rhett Bomar of Sam Houston State University, Pat White of West Virginia University and Stephen McGee of Texas A&M University to be the next quarterback selected.
