BASEBALL: Former Ball State pitcher called up to majors

Former Ball State University pitcher Bryan Bullington made his debut with the Toronto Blue Jays after being called up Friday.

Bullington pitched the ninth inning for the Blue Jays on Friday against the Chicago White Sox, allowing no runs on two hits and a walk. He struck out two in his debut with Toronto.

The Blue Jays called up Bullington from Las Vegas of the Pacific Coast League (AAA) on Friday.

The move brings the former Ball State University baseball player back into the MLB.

Bullington pitched three games - including two starts - during the 2008 season for the Cleveland Indians. He had a 14.2 ERA and 12 strike outs in 12 innings for Cleveland.

He had a 1.86 ERA through four games this season with Las Vegas coming out of the bullpen.

The former Cardinal was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2002 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He has a career 5.45 ERA in nine games - five of which were starts - with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cleveland Indians.

Bullington and pitcher Brian Burres replaced injured pitchers Ricky Romero and B.J. Ryan, who were put on the disabled list by the Blue Jays on Thursday.
