A two-day delay to the start of the series between the Ball State University baseball team and the University at Buffalo did not slow down the two offenses.
The Cardinals won the first game of a doubleheader at Buffalo 15-9. Freshman Cal Bowling (3-0) pitched 4 2/3 innings in relief of junior Brad Piatt for the win. Bulls' starter Jesse Reinstein took the loss, allowing eight runs in two innings.
Buffalo scored six runs in the first inning off Piatt and threatened again in the second before Bowling retired the side. Ball State added seven runs of its own in the second to give the visitors the lead for good.
Freshman first baseman Ian Nielsen paced the Cardinals going 4-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs. Junior right fielder Ryan Chenoweth added five RBI on two doubles.
