AT ISSUE: Triumphs of historical women's basketball team need to be acknowledged, praised by university, students

The 2009 Ball State University women's basketball team danced its way into history Sunday as it won the program's first-ever Mid-American Conference Championship and admission into the NCAA Tournament.

As the women celebrated, administrators began organizing a viewing party at Damon's Grill where fans, friends and family can support the team as it finds out where it will play next.

Once the location of the next game is announced the university and/or Student Government Association should work to make it easy for the students to catch the game.

Campus Alliance worked to make fan buses available for football games. Although it will be early in Cardinal Impact's term it should keep an open mind and try for the same thing. The location of the game will determine the viability of fan buses, but it's a notion that should be considered.

If it's impossible to get students to the game, the game should be brought to the students.

Something as simple as a viewing party at Pruis Hall would do a lot to promote school spirit and shows the university's support of a team that has accomplished a remarkable feat.

Sunday's win marked the 25th of the season, a record for the program.

The women's basketball team has earned its time in the spotlight, and hopefully the university gives it the attention it deserves.

School spirit should not only be facilitated by the university and SGA, students should do their best to watch the game and cheer on their peers.

If there's a break in your schedule you might even consider going to the game if it's at Purdue University, Notre Dame University or somewhere close.

Do what you can to watch the game; just be sure to support your peers.
