The Ball State University women's tennis team captured its second straight clean sweep Tuesday at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
The Cardinals defeated the Crusaders of Valparaiso University 7-0. The Cardinals captured their third dual meet win of the season, lifting their record one game above .500 to 3-2.
The victory against Valparaiso marks the second straight 7-0 victory after defeating IUPUI Thursday.
Ball State grabbed the lead early after gaining the first point of the match by winning all three doubles matches. After a close start to the match, the Cardinals' No. 1 doubles team of Georgina Thomson and Dena Boulieris secured an 8-4 victory against Jenny Schwartz and Molly Keifer of the Crusaders.
At the No. 2 doubles matchup, Sarah Hebble and Kylee Johnson cruised to an 8-2 victory, and Rachel Surowiec and Elizabeth Crasto put the finishing touches on the doubles round by defeating Valparaiso 8-5.
In singles play, freshman Hebble captured a 6-3, 6-3 victory by defeating the vocal and animated Jenny Schwartz of Valparaiso. Hebble said she started the match a little slow because she lost her concentration.
"I started to let her get to me a little bit," Hebble said. "But after coach reminded me to focus, I picked it up."
Boulieris claimed the prize for the No. 2 singles position with a 6-2, 6-0 victory, and Johnson flew past Katie Bilyeu at the No. 3 position with a 6-0, 6-1 win. Hayley Hall captured the No. 4 victory 6-0, 6-2, and Thomson turned in the only shutout of the evening with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No. 5 spot. Rachel Surowiec rounded out the Cardinals' clean sweep with a 6-2, 7-5 victory in the No. 6 singles matchup.
