For the first time since returning to the Ball State University track and field team since her attempt at making the 2008 Summer Olympics, Amber Williams won the Mid-American Conference Track Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.
Williams posted a conference-best time of 8.44 seconds in the 60-meter dash at the Meyo Invitational this past weekend. She also had a conference-best time of 24.56 seconds in the 200-meter dash at the invitational.
The Cardinals' fifth-year senior beat runners from No. 3 University of Michigan and No. 15 University of Minnesota in both the 60-meter hurdles and 200-meter hurdles.
Williams also has the conference's season-best time in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.44 seconds. She posted the time at the Indiana Wesleyan University Invitational Jan. 31 and set an Indiana Wesleyan University Indoor Sports Complex track record in the process. The time is .01 second shy of the NCAA Women's Indoor Track & Field provisional qualifying mark of 8.43 seconds.
The rest of the Cardinals and Williams, who has won the MAC Track Athlete of the Week three times, will next compete Feb. 20, in the Ball State Quadrangular - their lone home meet of the season.
