It started off as a unique social networking tool just for college students. Then it spread to high school. And then it opened up to the world. We call it Facebook, and today it turns five.
For better or worse, no one can deny it's a social phenomenon. Just look at the numbers - they speak for themselves: More than 150 million active users combine for a total of more than 3 billion minutes spent clicking through its pages each day.
Even the Gen. X'ers are doing it. According to the Facebook Press Room, they account for the fastest growing demographic of users.
With each unique visit, users are bombarded with an information overload.
Think. Click. Repeat.
With five years of time spent hearing about the site, it's a wonder users don't find themselves thinking in a mini-feed of their own.
Hmmmm ...
Kyle is contemplating how five years of Facebook have shaped a generation.

GÇó Maybe I should change my name so potential employers don't think bad things about me. Especially after they see those Spring Break pictures!
GÇó Gawd, Mom, get off Facebook. There r things u'll learn a/b me that I don't want u 2 know!
GÇó Eww no, I will not be friends with u. We didn't even talk in high school. Grossss.
GÇó Top Friends? That is SoOoO MySpace.
GÇó Dalen and Christy are now engaged. Thanks, mini-feed!
GÇó I wonder if she likes me. *Poke.*
GÇó RULE: Once you've been tagged you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you it's because I want to know more about you.
GÇó +1! That takes my friend total up to 999. Just. Need. One. More. *Goes back and adds the girl from high school.*
GÇó Triple Kegger?! Hellz yeah, I'll attend!
GÇó Did you SEE what she wrote on my wall?! Ugh, I'm so over her drama.
GÇó I really should start writing my paper that's due for my 8 a.m.
GÇó Crap, I can't believe I almost forgot about my best friend's birthday.
GÇó She poked me back! So, that totally means she likes me, too... right?
GÇó Barack Obama has a Facebook?
Happy Birthday, Facebook; I've gotta get back to work!
