SWIMMING AND DIVING: Cards remain in last place in MAC Championships

BOWLING GREEN, OHIO - For the second time this season, the Ball State University women's swimming and diving record books have to be rewritten.

Junior Emily Hurst broke the Cardinals' record in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:05.56 on Thursday at the Mid-American Conference Championships in Bowling Green. The school record time was good enough for 13th at the meet.

Junior Lisa Maertin was the high scorer for Ball State, placing fifth on 1-meter diving. Jessica Elzinga and Christina Riordan placed 15th and 16th, respectively, in the event as well.

Ball State concluded the night session by placing eighth in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

After the second day of competition, Ball State remains in last place out of eight teams.

Preliminaries for the 3-meter diving, 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200- yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard backstroke begin at 10 a.m. The finals start at 7 p.m.
