MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State back into national rankings

The Ball State University men's volleyball team is back in the coaches poll top 15.

The Cardinals received 38 votes - 28 more votes than in last week's poll - to jump up to No. 13 in the newest poll released Monday afternoon.

Ball State (1-3, 1-0 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) swept then-No. 11 Lewis University to open its conference season on Friday at Worthen Arena.

In the win, middle attacker J.D. Gasparovic had a career-high 15 kills and eight blocks. He was also named the MIVA Player of the Week on Monday.

Prior to the match, the Cardinals had lost their first three matches, including loses to No. 6 Stanford University and No. 1 Penn State University.

Ball State was the second highest ranked MIVA team in the poll. Ohio State University moved up one spot to No. 11 after defeating IPFW during the weekend. Lewis University dropped three spots to No. 14 following its loss to Ball State.
