MEN'S TENNIS: Senior receives weekly conference award

For the third time in his career, Ball State University men's tennis player Jose Perdomo won the Mid-American Conference Tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday.

Perdomo won both of his singles matches this past weekend against IUPUI and the University of Detroit Mercy. The senior won at No. 2 singles against IUPUI's Dan Klingenberg 6-2, 7-5 Saturday. He then beat Detroit Mercy's Pjotrs Necajevs 7-6 (5), 5-7, 10-4 Sunday in No. 1 singles.

Perdomo also won at No. 1 doubles with teammate Jorge Rodriguez both days. The pair won 8-3 against IUPUI's Klingenberg and Bren Vasalakis. They then won 8-4 against Detroit Mercy's Necajevs and Dustin Goldenberg.

In singles play, Perdomo is 4-2. The senior started the spring season with two loses in the first three matches before this recent three-match winning streak.

Perdomo finished last spring season with a 9-15 overall record, including a 7-12 record as the No. 1 singles player.

Ball State returns to action when it plays at 10 a.m. Sunday at Northwestern University.

The Wildcats defeated the Cardinals 6-1 last season. In that match, Perdomo had Ball State's only victory - beating Alexander Thams, who had to retire in the third set.
